Following a recent visit to Kingswood Dearne Valley, Labour MP, Caroline Flint and Councillor Sandra Holland have praised the centre for its sustainability and its value to the local community.
Caroline Flint, Member of Parliament for Don Valley and Shadow Secretary of State for Climate Change, said:
“Kingswood have transformed this redundant site into an exciting, residential learning centre for local schools and youth groups. They have shown great vision, building on the unique qualities of this site, to create a very special learning environment. I would doubt there is another centre in the UK that harnesses wind, solar and their own water treatment work, within a really fun setting.”
Formerly the Earth Centre, one of the millennium commission projects, Dearne Valley opened its doors as a Kingswood centre in 2012. Following a multi-million pound investment programme, Dearne Valley is our most environmentally sustainable centre, complete with one of Europe’s largest solar panels and an on-site waste recycling plant.
